BMW F10 brake fluid service: low mileage still needs care
It is easy to remember engine oil and forget when brake fluid was last changed. Low mileage does not mean it can stay in service indefinitely. This 2013 BMW F10 had its engine oil and brake fluid changed together.

Brake fluid needs more than a mileage check
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. As moisture builds up, its boiling point falls, which can affect braking under high heat. This is why even a lightly used car needs timely brake fluid service.
NHC considers moisture content and service history alongside the vehicle's maintenance requirements. We include this check during regular visits because it is easy to overlook when only the engine oil is on the agenda.
This F10 received BG DOT 5.1 brake fluid. We removed the old fluid from the reservoir and connected hoses at the calipers for the exchange.

A new filter and careful drain-point tightening
We drained the engine oil and fitted a new oil filter. The drain point was tightened with a torque wrench. Filter replacement and final tightening matter just as much as refilling the oil.
The products prepared for this work were Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30 and BG DOC.

Regular care after the fluid service
With the bonnet open and the car raised, we also looked around the oil service points and nearby components. Washer fluid was topped up.
Tell us if the starting noise has changed or a warning light has appeared. An oil service is an opportunity to look into those changes as well.
