2015 BMW 320d GT at 241,916km — From Shock Replacement to Alignment
This is a front and rear shock absorber replacement on a 2015 BMW 320d GT with 241,916km. The removed shocks had deteriorated to the point that the rod would not return after being compressed, and the difference was obvious when compared side by side with a new unit.

At 241,916km, We Started with the Shock Condition
The car had covered 241,916 km. The removed shock rod did not extend again after compression, unlike the replacement in the comparison footage.
Front and rear shocks and associated parts were replaced. Shock condition is assessed using leakage, operating resistance and vehicle behaviour as well as rod movement.

Mounts, Boots and the Front Arm
When replacing shocks, we check the supporting parts — mounts and boots — at the same time. The mount filters vibration between the shock and the body, and the boot protects the rod from debris. Reusing aged supporting parts on new shocks makes it hard to get the full benefit of the new components, so these parts were replaced together in this job.
A front arm was also replaced after comparing the old part with a new one. Arms carry rubber bushings that age with mileage; once a bushing stops doing its job, it can cause suspension noise and let the wheel geometry drift.

Torque-Wrench Tightening and Ride-Height Fastening
Suspension fasteners were tightened to specification with a torque wrench. Under-tightened suspension bolts can loosen, and over-tightened ones can damage parts, so we fasten to numbers, not by feel.
For fastening points that contain rubber bushings, the standard is to do the final tightening with the vehicle at the manufacturer-specified ride height. If they are tightened with the car in the air, the bushing is locked in a twisted position and wears out early. We apply this standard at those bushing fastening points.

Finishing with a Wheel Alignment
Replacing shocks and an arm changes wheel geometry, so the job is only complete after an alignment. Before adjustment, front toe measured 1.6 / 2.6mm and rear toe 1.5 / 1.8mm — a noticeable left-right difference.
The final figures after adjustment were 1.5 / 1.5mm front toe and 1.9 / 2.0mm rear toe. The front, which had a 1.0mm left-right gap, was brought to identical values, and the rear left-right difference was brought within 0.1mm. Even toe on both sides means the tyres roll under the same conditions, which helps reduce uneven wear.
We recorded the replaced components and final alignment readings. Fastener condition and alignment changes can be checked at a later inspection.
