G4 Rexton 2.2 intake manifold and gasket replacement, P200A history code checked
We replaced the intake manifold and gasket on a 2018 G4 Rexton 2.2. The odometer read 188,522 km when the vehicle came in, and the scan tool showed P200A, a swirl valve control code, stored as a history code.
When an intake manifold is replaced, should a stored P200A code be looked at as well? We replaced the intake manifold and gasket on this G4 Rexton 2.2 at 188,522 km. On the scan tool, P200A appeared as a history code, not a current code.
The intake manifold distributes incoming air to the cylinders. The swirl valve sits inside those intake passages and controls the airflow. Because both parts belong to the same intake system, we looked at the replacement work and the code together.

We disconnected the surrounding lines and connectors and removed the intake manifold
Several lines and connectors attach to the intake manifold, so the surrounding connections have to be separated before the manifold itself can come out. We released them one at a time and removed the manifold.
We laid the removed manifold next to the replacement part and compared the intake passages and mounting points. If the passage positions or mounting points do not match, the seal will be off at assembly, so the two need to be checked against each other first.

We inspected the mating surface and assembled with a new gasket
With the manifold removed, we inspected the intake ports and mating surface on the engine side. This is where the replacement manifold seats against the engine with the gasket in between. If debris is left on this surface or the surface is uneven, air can leak through the gap even with a new part fitted, and the amount of air the engine calculates can differ from the amount actually entering.
Once a gasket has been tightened and compressed, it loses some of its ability to spring back, so reusing it can weaken the seal. The manifold meets the engine at several intake passages at once, and every passage has to seal evenly. That is why we assembled the replacement manifold with a new gasket.
After fitting the manifold, we reconnected the surrounding lines and connectors. In the intake system, one loose line or one connector not fully seated can lead to an air leak or a control fault. The assembly is not finished until the actuator and wiring, not just the manifold itself, are back in place.

P200A was stored as a history code
The scan tool described P200A as swirl valve control error out of range. The swirl valve controls airflow in the intake passages. On this screen, P200A was shown as a history code.
A history code is a record left because that condition was detected at some earlier point. The code alone cannot show whether the same problem still exists or whether it is causally related to the manifold that was replaced.
If the warning light comes on or the power under acceleration feels different, please tell us the date and the circumstances. We will check whether the same code has been stored again and inspect the swirl valve actuation and the lines and connectors around the replaced manifold.

Frequently asked questions
Does P200A always mean the manifold has to be replaced?
No. We set the repair scope by checking the code details, current symptoms and the condition of the swirl valve actuator and connections together. On this vehicle, the manifold and gasket were replaced, and P200A was recorded as a history code. The code alone does not establish why the part was replaced. The work needed can differ between vehicles even with the same code.
Is a history fault code different from a current fault?
A history code is a record stored because the condition was detected earlier. Whether the same problem still occurs can only be determined by separately checking current codes and actual actuation.
Is intake cleaning the same as manifold replacement?
No. Cleaning removes contamination from the existing part. In this case, the manifold was removed and a replacement part was assembled with a new gasket. Which one is needed depends on the inspection results.
