Range Rover Vogue: air-strut replacement followed by alignment

After replacing the passenger-side air strut, we checked all four wheels. Suspension parts had been disconnected, so wheel alignment needed checking after reassembly.

Replacing the passenger-side air strut

We raised the vehicle, accessed the passenger-side air strut and compared the removed part with the replacement before fitting it.

Air suspension affects ride height and comfort. After replacement, connections and operation need checking, followed by wheel alignment at the correct ride height.

Using service information and a torque wrench

We followed the service information and used a torque wrench on the upper and lower connections. A diagnostic tool was also used for air-suspension work.

Upper and lower fasteners must be tightened according to the vehicle's service information. Installation, ride height and alignment are checked after assembly.

Right rear toe: -0.3mm before, 2.0mm on both sides after

Before alignment adjustment, right rear toe was outside the equipment's reference range at -0.3mm. Left rear toe was 1.1mm.

Rear toe was set to 2.0mm on each side and front toe to 0.8mm on each side. Rear thrust angle changed from 0.06° to 0.00°. Both front and rear readings were checked.

Checking all four wheels after a one-side repair

This work included passenger-side air-strut replacement and front and rear alignment. Measuring all four wheels after a one-side repair checks their relative position and alignment.

If ride height changes after the work or one side settles while parked, note how long it takes and the conditions. This helps reproduce the issue at the next inspection.

Should alignment be checked after a strut replacement?

Alignment needs checking according to the parts disconnected and the scope of work. We measured and adjusted both axles on this vehicle after replacement.

Does a low corner mean the air strut has failed?

Air lines and valves also need checking. We consider which corner drops, how quickly it happens and the diagnostic results before deciding on repairs.
