Mercedes-Benz S350: looking beyond repeated alignment adjustments to the tyres
After several alignment visits elsewhere, the owner still had an unresolved driving concern. On 31 July, NHC checked both wheel alignment and tyre road-force variation. Resolving that first concern led to further inspections and care for the family’s Volvo.
The family’s Volvo mentioned here is the XC60 in the following case. See the family’s XC60 tyre and driveline service

What was left after the earlier adjustments?
The customer had already visited several workshops for alignment, but the driving concern remained. We needed to check this car’s wheel angles and tyre assemblies together.
The first screen showed front toe of 0.3 mm left and 3.9 mm right. Rear toe was 1.2 mm left and 3.5 mm right. These are the readings from the July visit.

Matching the tyre to the wheel
RFV is the variation in force as a tyre assembly rotates under roller load. It complements alignment measurements when checking a persistent driving concern.
The road-force work included changing the tyre’s position on the rim using the Hunter Revolution. The work video shows the marked positions being brought together, followed by bead work.
A matching screen shows 8.0 kg measured and 4.5 kg predicted after adjustment. The prediction is a target; the final wheel-position screen below shows the measured values used for placement.

Final road-force readings by wheel position
| Position | Final RFV |
|---|---|
| Front left | 3.5 kg |
| Front right | 1.5 kg |
| Rear left | 6.0 kg |
| Rear right | 6.5 kg |

Rear toe brought closer together
| Rear wheel | Before (mm) | After (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| Left | 1.2 | 2.6 |
| Right | 3.5 | 2.6 |
The rear post-adjustment screen shows 2.6 mm on each side and a thrust angle of 0.00°. The full original screen is included below.

That first visit led to ongoing care
The owner’s original concern was resolved at NHC. They subsequently entrusted us with a comprehensive inspection and oil service, and also brought their family’s Volvo for care.
The later inspection evidence helped the owner obtain substantial suspension replacement at the dealer. The September alignment after that work is covered in the connected article below.
Frequently asked questions
Why check the tyres after repeated alignment visits?
Wheel angles and tyre force variation are different checks. This S350 received both alignment and tyre-to-wheel matching.
Was 4.5 kg the final measured RFV?
No. The matching screen showed 8.0 kg measured and 4.5 kg predicted. The final wheel-position readings were 3.5, 1.5, 6.0 and 6.5 kg.
Repeated alignment visits have not resolved the concern?
Tell us when you notice the concern and what has already been adjusted or replaced. Bring previous alignment readings if you have them. We will inspect the current alignment and tyre condition and explain the work needed.
We explain the scope and cost before proceeding with your agreement.
