A rare STO deserves care in the routine details, too

The STO brings Lamborghini’s motorsport technology to a road car. Its 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 produces 640 CV, alongside carbon bodywork, dedicated aerodynamics and CCM-R carbon-ceramic brakes.

Protecting centre-lock contact surfaces, working carefully around carbon-ceramic brakes and accessing several oil drain points all require familiarity with the car and its service procedures. On this visit, we protected surrounding components as we worked through draining, replacement, tightening and measurement.

Mileage alone does not tell the whole maintenance story. We consider time since the last service and how the car is used, then measure the wheel alignment. On this car, front camber, caster and toe needed adjustment.

Engine oil: eight drain points and a final level check

The Huracán STO uses dry-sump lubrication, circulating oil from a separate tank. Removing the underbody cover gives access to drain points on the tank, engine and pipework. The work involves more access and handling than opening a single sump plug.

We drained oil at eight points and collected 8 litres on this visit. The refill quantity is set using the correct oil-temperature and level-check conditions, rather than simply copying the amount drained. A genuine oil filter was also fitted.

We handled the cover fasteners and drain plugs carefully to protect their threads, replaced the sealing washer and finished with a torque wrench. Preserving these components during routine servicing is part of looking after the car over time.

Brake fluid: replacement followed by careful clean-up

The STO’s CCM-R brakes still require brake fluid maintenance. Moisture absorption can lower the fluid’s boiling point, so service history and use both matter. We used BG DOT 5.1 for this visit.

The centre-lock wheels were removed using the dedicated tools, protecting the caps and contact areas. After cleaning the reservoir, we worked through the inner and outer bleed points at each of the four calipers.

We then removed residual fluid around the bleed points and checked that none remained on the painted calipers or surrounding components. The bleed screws were finished with a torque wrench. Clean-up is part of the service, alongside fluid replacement.

Front toe: 2.1 mm on both sides

Toe describes how far a wheel points inward or outward when viewed from above. This car showed a side-to-side difference in front toe, with front camber and caster also requiring adjustment.

We adjusted front camber, caster and toe, together with rear toe, comparing the two sides of each axle. The measurements below show the same car before and after adjustment.

Rear camber was not adjusted on this visit. It requires more disassembly, so further work was left for a review of the ride height and the next maintenance plan. Rear camber remained outside the range displayed on the final screen.

Completed work and the next maintenance step

We replaced the engine oil, genuine oil filter and brake fluid, adjusted the front alignment and rear toe, and replaced the cabin filter. Rear camber remains an item to review with the ride height at a later visit.
