Kia Mohave Transmission Fluid Change with Ride-Height Torquing, RFV and Alignment Care

On a 2022 Mohave, we replaced the transmission fluid and rear brake pads, and also carried out Road Force balancing, ride-height torquing and a wheel alignment. After the August 14 adjustment, toe measured 0.8mm and 0.7mm at the front and 1.1mm and 1.0mm at the rear.

How the suspension is torqued, the angles of the wheels, and the force variation a tire produces as it rotates are three separate things. That's why each one needs to be checked on its own when you're looking after how a car drives.

This 2022 Mohave first had ride-height torquing and a wheel alignment. Later, we replaced the transmission fluid and rear brake pads, then carried out a Road Force measurement and an alignment adjustment.

We replaced the transmission fluid and rear brake pads

We changed the transmission fluid using FUCHS TITAN ATF 6400 AW-1. We connected the exchange machine to the transmission, watched the fluid flow through the sight glass, and also checked the transmission-related diagnostic values.

Transmission fluid should meet the specification for the transmission, and the level should be set at the specified temperature following the specified procedure. Keeping a record of the product used and the change history helps decide when the next service is due.

We also replaced the rear disc brake pad kit.

Ride-height torquing and Road Force check different things

Earlier, on August 7, we torqued the suspension with the vehicle's weight on its wheels. Bushings are rubber bonded to metal. If they're tightened while the wheels are hanging free, they can be left twisted once the car is lowered back down. That's why we tighten them at ride height.

After that, we measured the wheels and tires on a Hunter Road Force machine. A conventional balance looks at how weight is distributed as the assembly spins. Road Force goes further: a roller loads the tire, and the machine also measures how much the force varies as it rotates.

We adjusted toe on all four wheels

Comparing the values before and after the August 14 adjustment, front toe went from 0.0mm left and −0.2mm right to 0.8mm and 0.7mm. Rear toe was brought from 2.1mm left and 1.1mm right to 1.1mm and 1.0mm.

Before the adjustment, rear-left toe was outside the machine's reference range. After the adjustment, the left-to-right difference at the rear dropped from 1.0mm to 0.1mm. We look at these values alongside how the vehicle tracks and how the tires wear.

Frequently asked questions

If I have ride-height torquing done, do I still need an alignment check?

Ride-height torquing sets the stance at which the suspension is tightened so the bushings aren't left twisted. An alignment sets the angles the wheels point at. Once suspension joints have been worked on, the wheel angles can change too, so we check the alignment as well.

How is Road Force balancing different from a conventional wheel balance?

A conventional balance corrects uneven weight distribution as the wheel spins. Road Force presses on the tire and also measures force variation while it is under load. It helps identify cases where vibration persists at high speed even though the weight is balanced.

Is transmission fluid replacement timing decided by its color?

Color is only one reference point. We decide on timing by checking whether the fluid meets the transmission's specification, when it was last changed and at what mileage, and how the transmission is operating. After a change, the final fluid level is set at the temperature and by the procedure specified for that transmission.

If you need transmission fluid care and a driving check together

We review transmission care, suspension torquing and wheel alignment and explain what needs checking. Please share recent service or repair history and any concerns. If the car vibrates or pulls, tell us the speed and road surface where it happens.

We explain the work and estimate before proceeding with your consent.
