G-CLASS CARE

Mercedes-AMG G63 · Overheat History, Fluid and Cooling Care

A G63 AMG came in for maintenance after an engine overheat warning. It showed 46,423km at intake. We checked the cooling system and replaced the transmission and differential fluids, brake fluid and filters.

The differential oil was in poor condition. We changed it and recommended another change at the next engine oil service.

Mercedes-AMG G63: the performance G-Class

The G63 is the high-performance AMG version of the G-Class. This generation uses a 4.0L V8 biturbo engine, rated by Mercedes-Benz at 585PS and 850Nm. It combines the familiar square G-Class body with AMG driving performance.

The overheat warning history led to a plan for thermostat-related inspection and work, along with coolant service. During the fluid work, we checked the differential oil and accessed the brake calipers and cooling pipes directly.

02

Differential oil inspection and a repeat-change recommendation

The drained differential oil was in poor condition and metal particles were visible. We changed the oil, then recommended another differential oil change at the next engine oil service.

For the transmission-fluid exchange, we connected equipment beneath the car and watched the fluid flow during the work.

03

Brake fluid, filters and coolant

We connected drain hoses at the brake calipers and changed the brake fluid. The cabin and engine air filters were removed, inspected and replaced.

Existing coolant was drained through individual pipes during the exchange. Several cooling lines needed access, so we worked carefully around the surrounding pipework.

04

Work completed and the next checks

Transmission and differential fluids, brake fluid and filters were replaced, and coolant exchange work was carried out. Another differential oil change was recommended at the next engine oil service.

A coolant change alone does not establish that the overheat warning has been resolved. The cooling system, including the thermostat, and any recurring warning still need follow-up checks.

G-Class maintenance questions

Where do you start when a car has had an overheat warning?

We ask when and under what conditions the warning appeared, then inspect the cooling system. On this G63, that history led to a plan for thermostat-related inspection and work, together with coolant service.

Why was another differential oil change recommended?

The drained oil was in poor condition and metal particles were visible. We changed it, then recommended another change at the next engine oil service.

What work was done on this G63?

Transmission and differential fluids, brake fluid, cabin and engine air filters were replaced, and coolant exchange work was carried out.

Are the G500 and G63 serviced in the same way?

The work depends on the fitted parts and condition of each car. On this G63, we paid attention to its overheat warning history and the condition of the differential oil.

What should I share when arranging G63 maintenance?

Please share the year, mileage, recent service history and any warning lamps or driving symptoms. We will explain the checks, the work needed for this visit and the items to look at next.
