Kia K9 towed in after a tyre failure
New tyres, with the wheels checked too
Published 2026-09-12
This Kia K9 arrived by tow truck after a tyre failure. After comparing Korean and imported options, the owner chose four Goodyear tyres. We checked a bent wheel found during the work, carried out road-force matching and adjusted the alignment.

01
A tyre failure brought the K9 in by tow truck
The odometer read 44,709km on arrival. Before fitting the new tyres, we checked the damaged tyre and wheel.
That wheel had a mild bend. Fitting a new tyre would leave the deformation in place, so wheel condition needed attention along with balancing.
02
Comparing Korean and imported tyre options
We compared estimates for Korean and imported tyres. At the time, Goodyear EfficientGrip Comfort tyres were available at a special price, leaving only a small difference from the Korean options. The owner chose Goodyear after comparing those estimates.
All four tyres were replaced. We then checked the assemblies and the variation in force as they rotated under load.
03
A mild bend at the damaged corner
The slight bend at the damaged corner made reducing road force more difficult. We measured the tyre-and-wheel assembly, carried out matching and checked it again.
Mass balancing corrects weight imbalance during rotation. Road-force measurement applies load to measure radial force variation, or RFV. A bent wheel is a separate geometry issue, so RFV and wheel runout need to be assessed together.
04
Rechecking the bent wheel assembly
We matched the bent wheel assembly as far as possible, then measured it again. The final screen also showed OK for both mass-balance planes.
Road-force matching reduced force variation in the tyre-and-wheel assembly. Physical repair of the wheel bend remains a separate task.
BENT WHEEL ASSEMBLY · FINAL RECHECK
6.5 kgf
Both mass-balance planes OK · wheel repair or replacement remains recommended

05
Correcting front and rear toe
Front toe was within the displayed range but differed left to right. Both rear readings were below range. We set front toe to 1.1mm per side and rear toe to 2.8mm per side. Increasing rear toe brought it into range; a larger number here does not mean a worse result.
What changed at each wheel?
The pale outlines mark the final setting. The separation from each dark wheel illustrates how much adjustment was needed.
Before · settings differ
Unequal front toe; insufficient rear toe
After · balanced left and right
Front 1.1 / 1.1 · rear 2.8 / 2.8mm

Completed work and follow-up
This visit covered four Goodyear tyres, road-force matching and balancing, and wheel-alignment adjustment.
We recommended subsequent repair or replacement of the bent wheel. A slight vibration may remain, so the assembly needs to be checked again after the wheel issue is addressed.
Korean cars such as the K9 receive the same care we bring to high-performance imported cars. The procedure is chosen for the vehicle, and we explain both the work completed and any follow-up still needed.

Tyre replacement questions
Should the wheel be checked after a tyre failure?
An impact that damages a tyre can also deform the wheel. We found a mild bend at the damaged corner during this K9 tyre replacement.
Why did the owner choose Goodyear?
We compared estimates for Korean and imported tyres. Goodyear EfficientGrip Comfort was available at a special price at the time, with only a small difference from the Korean options, so the owner selected it.
Does road-force matching repair a bent wheel?
Matching reduces force variation in the tyre-and-wheel assembly. Repairing or replacing a bent wheel is separate work. This K9 was rechecked at 6.5kgf RFV, with wheel repair or replacement recommended as follow-up.
Can vibration remain after adjustment?
A slight vibration may remain because this wheel is still bent. After repair or replacement, balancing and actual driving behaviour should be checked again.
Can Korean cars receive this service too?
Yes. We work on Korean cars including the K9. Tyre selection, wheel condition, balancing and alignment are assessed for the particular vehicle and symptoms.

Replacing tyres after a puncture?
We will check the wheels too.
We can compare tyres for your driving needs and budget, then assess whether the affected wheel needs further work. Tell us the model, tyre size and what happened so we can explain the proposed work and estimate.
