Jaguar E-PACE post-purchase inspection and solenoid replacement
A post-purchase inspection on a 2018 E-PACE bought at a good price. In response to camshaft-related codes, we replaced two control valve solenoids and serviced the oils and filters. If the warning returns, the cam adjuster system will need further inspection.

The owner brought this newly purchased 2018 Jaguar E-PACE in for an inspection. The interior was well kept, and the car had been bought at a good price.
The scan tool showed stored codes related to fuel pressure and the camshaft. In response to the camshaft-related codes, we replaced two control valve solenoids. The engine oil, filters and transmission fluid were also replaced during the same visit.

Stored fault codes and solenoid replacement
The scan tool had recorded P0191-85, related to the fuel rail pressure sensor, along with camshaft-related codes including P000B-00 and P0014-71. These codes can appear when the camshaft position differs from the requested position or responds late.
In response to the camshaft-related codes, we replaced two control valve solenoids. We told the owner that if the same warning comes back, the cam adjuster system will need further inspection. The cam adjusters were not replaced this time, and the fuel pressure code also needs to be checked separately.

Underbody, brakes and battery checked on the lift
With the car on the lift, we looked over the underside of the engine and transmission, the driveshafts and the suspension joints. The brake fluid tester read 1.2%. Pad and tire wear were measured with gauges, and the tire pressures were set.
The battery test, set to AGM with a rated 800CCA, returned 843CCA at 12.45V with a result of Good Recharge. It calls for another check after charging.

Fresh oils and filters
We replaced the engine oil and filter, filling with PETRONAS Syntium 7000 0W-20 and the engine oil additive BG MOA. The air filter was replaced after comparing the old one side by side with the new one, and the cabin filter was also renewed.
The transmission fluid was replaced with ZF LifeGuard Fluid 9 by connecting a service hose and BG equipment underneath, and the level was then adjusted using the equipment's screen.
Parts replaced and further checks
Solenoids replaced for camshaft codes; fuel pressure code remains separate
Engine oil, filters and transmission fluid service
Underbody, brakes, tires and battery
Inspect the cam adjusters further if the same camshaft warning returns
Frequently asked questions
What happens if the warning light comes back after the solenoid replacement?
If the same camshaft code returns, the cam adjusters need checking. We replaced two control valve solenoids this time; the cam adjusters were not replaced.
