Inspect the connections as well as the filter

Cleaning a DPF and repairing its exhaust connection are separate tasks. Removing deposits inside the filter does not complete any work needed at the connection.

This F30 received a smoke test before DPF removal. The photos show the underside of the vehicle and the removed filter.

Cleaning the DPF and replacing the flexible joint

The removed DPF received dry and wet cleaning. A close-up shows the filter connection during cleaning.

The old flexible exhaust section was removed and replaced. The old and new parts and the welding process are shown in sequence. This joint replacement was part of this visit.

Before-and-after bench readings

The bench display recorded a peak of 13 hPa before cleaning and 11 hPa afterwards. These readings were taken with the DPF removed from the car.

They do not establish that every exhaust-system issue has been resolved. The filter was refitted, with subsequent monitoring agreed.

Avoid repeating the same work without checking

This 320d received DPF cleaning and an exhaust-joint replacement, followed by a plan to monitor its condition. The fact that a joint was replaced is separate from determining why the filter accumulated deposits.

If a problem returns, fault records and recent repair history should be compared before repeating the clean. A focused inspection helps avoid unnecessary repeat costs.
