Mercedes-AMG G63 engine oil service: a new filter and drain washer

On this 2020 Mercedes-AMG G63, we used MOTOREX FS-P 0W-40, replaced the oil filter and drain washer, added BG MOA, topped up washer fluid and adjusted tire pressures. The service display showed 15,000 km afterward.

2020 Mercedes-AMG G63

This 2020 Mercedes-AMG G63 received an engine oil service. Along with the oil, we replaced the filter and the drain-plug washer.

After draining the used oil, we installed the new washer and filter and filled the engine with MOTOREX FS-P 0W-40. We also added BG MOA, topped up washer fluid, adjusted tire pressures and checked the service display.

Draining the oil and replacing the washer

We raised the vehicle and drained the used engine oil from the underside. A new washer went under the drain plug before it was refitted.

The washer compresses as the plug is tightened, sealing the joint. A used washer has already changed shape and may not seal the same way a second time.

Replacing the oil filter

We removed the old oil filter and installed a new one. The filter catches material circulating in the oil, so we changed it with the oil rather than leaving the used filter in place.

The filter housing had to be opened and refitted. Its fit matters because oil can escape from a poorly seated housing.

Fresh oil, BG MOA and the service display

We filled the engine with MOTOREX FS-P 0W-40 and added BG MOA through the oil filler. In the 0W-40 grade, 0W is the cold-temperature viscosity grade and 40 is the grade at operating temperature. We also topped up washer fluid.

Tire pressures were set to 35 psi and 34 psi; the source does not identify which axle received each pressure. After the work, the instrument service display showed 15,000 km.

If the oil level falls or a leak appears later

If an oil-level warning appears before the next service or there is an oil mark where the vehicle was parked, we can check for traces around the drain plug, filter housing and other areas. Mileage and any oil added since the service will help us assess oil consumption separately from a leak.

Frequently asked questions

Why replace the drain washer during an oil change?

The washer compresses to seal the gap between the plug and the oil pan. Once used, it may not seal as well again. We fitted a new washer on this G63.

Does the 15,000 km display set the next oil-change interval?

It is the distance shown on the service display after this work. The actual service timing also depends on time, mileage and use. Have an oil warning or leak checked without waiting for that display to count down.

What should I report if an oil-level warning appears?

Tell us the mileage when it appeared, how much oil was added, and whether there is an oil mark under the parked vehicle. We can compare that with the previous service record.
