Hyundai Grandeur IG alignment: rear toe differed on a green screen

All four initial readings were within specification, but rear toe differed left to right. We narrowed that gap and measured the wheels and tires separately on a Road Force machine.

The alignment screen for this 2020 Hyundai Grandeur IG showed all four toe readings in green. The rear wheels were still different: 0.8 mm on the left and 2.3 mm on the right.

We brought the rear values closer together and measured the wheels and tires separately on a Road Force machine. The visit also included a tire rotation and engine oil, automatic transmission fluid and brake fluid changes.

All four readings were green, but rear toe differed

Initial front toe was 1.4 mm left and 1.2 mm right. At the rear it was 0.8 mm left and 2.3 mm right. All four readings were within the machine’s specification range.

That range is the allowance for each wheel. Rear toe still differed by 1.5 mm between the two sides. We looked beyond the green display to see how the rear wheels pointed together.

Front toe equal, rear toe within 0.1 mm

After adjustment, front toe read 0.9 mm on both sides. Rear toe read 1.0 mm left and 1.1 mm right. The rear left–right gap fell from 1.5 mm to 0.1 mm.

Thrust angle shows how the rear axle points relative to the car’s centerline. It moved from -0.06° to -0.01°. Bringing the rear toe readings closer also brought the rear axle direction closer to center.

Measuring the wheels and tires separately on Road Force

Alignment checks the direction of the wheels on the car. Road Force measures RFV: how much force changes as a loaded tire rolls. We measured the Grandeur’s wheel-and-tire assemblies on the machine and rotated the tires.

Alignment readings and road feel belong together. A green display does not rule out pulling or vibration. We road-test before and after alignment to check how the car drives, alongside the measurements.

Engine oil, transmission fluid and brake fluid changed

We drained the old engine oil into a container, replaced the filter and filled with PETRONAS 5000AV 5W-30.

We used a BG PXT machine for a circulation exchange of the automatic transmission fluid, filling with Castrol Transmax D-VI/M-LV. Draining from the pan alone leaves old fluid in the torque converter and lines. A circulation exchange removes fluid as new fluid goes in.

We pulse-flushed the brake hydraulic system with BG BFX equipment and replaced the brake fluid with BG SuperDOT5.1.

Four-wheel toe, before and after adjustment

The initial readings were within the machine's green range. This comparison shows the left and right toe values brought closer together.

Frequently asked questions

Can an alignment need adjustment when the screen is green?

Green means each wheel is within its own specification range. It does not mean left and right match. This Grandeur had a 1.5 mm rear toe gap, which we reduced.

How is Road Force different from alignment?

Alignment sets wheel direction on the car. Road Force measures changes in force as a loaded wheel-and-tire assembly rolls. They address different parts of a pull or vibration complaint.

The readings are in range, but the car still feels wrong?

If the car drifts to one side or the steering wheel is off-center, send us the previous alignment printout when you book. We will compare the readings with what you feel on the road and explain what needs adjusting.

We explain the work and estimate before proceeding with your consent.
