FERRARI ROMA · TYRE MAINTENANCE

Ferrari Roma winter tyres
Wheel protection and runout checks

The owner wanted to keep driving their Roma through winter. With approximately 7,000km covered, it came in for winter tyres. We measured wheel and tyre runout and completed weight balancing as part of the replacement.

Winter tyres and wheel protection

The Roma’s 20-inch wheels were removed in preparation for winter tyres.

We checked the tool contact areas, used protective guides and secured the wheel appropriately before removing the old tyre.

Contact areas were protected when securing the wheel as well as during tyre removal and fitting.

02

Tyre fitting and balancer mounting

After fitting the winter tyre, we worked on even bead seating. The bead is the edge of the tyre that seats against the rim.

Accurate mounting also matters on the balancer. An adapter matching the wheel bolt seats was used to secure the assembly for measurement.

Runout measurements and assessment

Weight balancing addresses uneven mass distribution. Runout diagnosis examines how evenly the wheel and tyre rotate. Each provides different information when deciding what further work is needed.

This job used a Hofmann machine for unloaded geometric measurement. The readings are not RFV values measured under load.

The display also raised a possible tyre issue and advised checking for defects. Winter-tread characteristics were considered as a possible explanation at the time. After reviewing rim measurements and assembly condition, the technician decided to finish weight balancing without further matching.

After balancing, the display showed 0g on both correction planes and OK. These are balance indications, not a claim of zero vibration on the road.

After refitting the wheels and completing a road test, we finished the wheel fastening with a torque wrench. Alignment adjustment was not part of this job.

Ferrari tyre service: questions and answers

Can a Ferrari Roma be fitted with winter tyres?

This Roma received winter tyres for cold-season driving. Share the model, fitted tyre sizes and intended use so we can discuss suitable tyres and the work required.

How do you reduce the risk of wheel damage?

We protect contact areas and use mounting components suited to the wheel. Tyre-changer contact points and balancer mounting were checked during this job.

How is balancing different from runout measurement?

Balancing addresses uneven mass distribution during rotation. Runout measurement examines geometric variation as the wheel and tyre rotate. A balance reading alone does not describe both.

Was Road Force measurement performed on this Roma?

This job used a Hofmann machine for unloaded runout diagnosis and weight balancing. It was not a loaded Road Force measurement of tyre force variation (RFV).

Was wheel alignment included?

No alignment adjustment was performed in this case. Pulling or uneven wear would be assessed separately to determine whether alignment or another service is needed.

How do I book supercar tyre service?

Tell us the vehicle, tyre sizes and reason for replacement. We will discuss wheel condition, tyre availability, scope and cost. NHC Motors in Suwon operates by appointment.
